<drug> A potent inhibitor of cyclooxygenase whic blocks the sysnthesis of prostaglandins from arachadonic acid. It is used as an anti-inflammatory agent, analgesic, antipyretic. Synonym: acetyl salicylate. (18 Nov 2007)
